Colonial Williamsburg

Virginia is rich in history. The abundance of historical significance in the Hampton Roads area makes for not just great locations to visit, but for communities in which to live, learn, and grow from. One could spend an endless amount of time exploring museums, historical sites, battlefields, and learning about the people, places and events that shaped our past and influence our future.

No event, however, may be as renowned as one that took place over 200 years ago: the Battle of Yorktown. In 1781 the Continental Army defeated British General Cornwallis and his Redcoats in the last great engagement of the war, ending King George III’s tyranny over the 13 original colonies and fulfilling the promise of July 4, 1776 - the independence of America. Virginia is at the heart of American history, and Virginia’s Historic Triangle takes you back through time to re-discover Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown as they were centuries ago.

The Historic Triangle marks major events in the story of colonial America. Linked by the scenic 23-mile Colonial Parkway, visit important stops on our nation’s journey towards independence. From the first English settlement to the final battle that secured liberty and independence for our great nation, the historic triangle is ripe with history and knowledge to be learned about the people and events that shaped who we are as a nation today.
